Appreciate your position, Kelly, but if I recall, when McCarthy replaced Ryan as House GOP leader, he was regarded as a lightweight. I agree with the assessment of 1210 afternoon host Rich Zeoli that as messy as the process is now, it is preferable to pushing McCarthy through only to realize as 2024 heats up that he is just the latest doormat to be stepped on by Democrat leadership. We need a Speaker with Gingrich's spine and I don't see that in McCarthy.

I have the advantage of knowing McCarthy. By his own admission, he wasn’t ready to be speaker 7 years ago. He’s ready now. He is neither weak nor ineffective. You would also be wise to revisit history on how Newt lost his job. Newt supports McCarthy.

I remember in a general sense why Newt was pushed out, but I have a sense that if he was a "go along to get along" type his ethics issues would have been overlooked. As far as McCarthy, I hope you are right if he is elected Speaker. I thought Ryan would be more effective than he was in promoting fiscal responsibility. Let the government shut down, as Newt did. Too many in the Beltway GOP shrink as soon as the Democrats and their media lapdogs say mean things about them.

This appears to be more confusion. I am tiring of the constant theater. When will there be action? This is more reality television.
