We will know quickly who won France’s presidential election. French voters likely will have confidence in the outcome, no matter who wins. We could learn a lot from France
Very interesting points made here. As is so often the case, compromise would be the best answer. Moving our elections from Tuesday (a working day for most people) to Sunday would be a start. Automatic election enrollment would also provide a boost in participation (turnout). Increasing the number and efficiency of polling places would also help. Requiring photo ID (a conservative demand) is also a good idea. I’m also in favor of mail-in voting (it works well in Utah, Colorado and Oregon), but perhaps that could be a matter of respectful discourse. Surely, it’s not impossible to come up with a better system, especially for federal elections (Congress and President).
Great points. Texas and I think Louisiana have primary and special elections on Saturdays, and while I love that, Democrats would prefer another paid federal holiday. It can also be harder to get people to work elections on a weekend in the US.
