"Trans Day of Vengeance," Indeed
Another horrible mass shooting, and new evidence of our mental health crisis. Gender Identity Disorder is mental illness, and it's time the American Psychiatric Association reconsidered
Who isn’t fed up with all the mass shootings we’ve endured painfully over the past few decades? Mandalay Bay. Pulse Night Club. San Bernadino. Marjorie Stoneman High School. Uvalde. Sutherland Springs. A Pittsburgh synagogue. Emmanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC. Sandy Hook. The list goes on.
Horrific images emerge in any normal brain upon mentioning each tragic location. Additional images emerge on how partisans tried to politicize every single one to advance partisan agendas.
Admit it; every one of these tragedies has been politicized. Then-Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) forced the removal of a Confederate flag over the state capitol in response to the horrible murders at Charleston’s Emmanuel AME Church, arguably her best-remembered (only?) accomplishment as Governor. The Uvalde elementary school massacre spawned a bipartisan federal “red flag” law. How has that worked out? “Thoughts and prayers” are never enough for moral preeners on The Left bent on blaming guns for the horrors.
And that’s hardly a comprehensive list. Consider our first modern “mass shooting,” the University of Texas clocktower shooter, in 1966. Charles Whitman killed 14 people that day and wounded 31 others. Media reports blame an overbearing father.
Get ready for the blame game over the latest tragic mass shooting. Except for this time, blaming guns alone won’t be easy for partisans. This shooting runs smack into a very powerful political narrative. And some are blaming the school.
This horrific tragedy involves a transgender activist, complete with a manifesto, who shot and killed six people, including young children, at Covenant Christian School in Nashville. Early reports suggest the murderer formerly attended the school.
Attacks on the Christian school as an “indoctrination center” - projection alert - were immediate. Let the floundering begin. This will be interesting to watch.
We have much to learn, so I’ll refrain from early judgments. It will be hard because my sons attended a Christian school in a nice suburban area of Philadelphia, and I have strong views about the nascent medical industry profiteering from the mutilation of young children, often with the consent of their clueless and incompetent parents.
At this writing, the transgender killer’s manifesto was unavailable. But here’s what we do know, according to the New York Post’s first account:
Nashville police revealed that the 28-year-old who shot and killed six people at the Covenant School, including three children, identified as transgender and had a detailed manifesto to attack the Christian academy.
Officials said Audrey Hale, a former student, entered the school Monday morning by shooting through a door on the side of the building.
While inside, Hale killed Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, and William Kinney, all age 9, as well as custodian Mike Hill and substitute teacher Cynthia Peak, both 61, and school head Katherine Koonce, 60.
Following the shootings, Hale was killed when they encountered officers on the second floor by 10:27 a.m., four minutes into the shooting.
“They.” Even the New York Post.
Police said Hale was equipped with at least two assault rifles and a handgun, and in searching her family home in Nashville, officers found detailed maps and a manifesto of the attack.
“We have a manifesto, we have some writings that we’re going over that pertain to this day,” Nashville police chief John Drake said about the discovery.
I’ll repeat, we have much to learn. My journalistic training requires that I endeavor to refrain from early judgments. But this will be hard because we have so much evidence of the enormous and permanent damage being done to young people, especially young women, by this new religion - the church of genderism.
Except it’s an anti-Christian, even an anti-God “church.” You don’t need to bend the knee to the reality of a “Creator God.” You can create your reality. Your truth. You are the god that you’ve been searching for.
Under that rubric, you can normalize almost anything, including pedophilia. The Aztecs justified child sacrifice. And much more. Much of this today is induced by peer and societal pressure.
Let’s be clear: Gender dysphoria is real. People suffer from it, sometimes agonizingly. They deserve our compassion and respect. And they need help. Professional help. Responsible professional help, which appears increasingly difficult to find. It seems more and more professionals are bent on “gender-affirming” care. That’s akin to finding doctors who will acquiesce to your own diagnosis.
I remember the old saying, “He Who Acts as His Own Doctor Has a Fool for a Patient.”
The American Psychiatric Association has recently turned from science to politics by removing “gender identity disorder” from its lexicon. In 2012, at the demands of transgender activists, it was removed entirely from The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V).
If intelligent minds are still engaged at the APA, they should ask whether it may be time to reconsider “gender identity disorder.”
I’m tempted to ask anti-gun advocates such as US Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) and others whether it might be time to keep guns out of the hands of transgender people. Harsh? I’m just applying their logic.
What would lead anyone to enter a school and shoot a child, a teacher, or anyone?
I don’t know. It’s unimaginable. But looking at the profiles of all the mass shooters we’ve been inflicted with over the past two decades, it’s time for us to take a serious look at mental illness in all its forms.
Including gender identity disorder.
Thanks, Kelly. Well done. Unfortunately, because you speak wisdom and sense, I am not hopeful that progress will be made on this, but the Lord has his ways of accomplishing his good. We in the church need to increase our prayers for our nation.
Brilliant commentary, and thank you for "going against the grain" and having the courage to actually call transgenderism a mental infirmity, which needs to be treated with compassion, but not aided and abetted.
