A well-intended idea. We need more of those to break the cycle of non-think. The requirement to mine both sides especially useful.
I’m all for building critical thinking skills since those are critical to higher thinking. But as important, is a level of selflessness that allows one to be more objective. These days, suppressing an intellectual ego (and indoctrination) feels as elusive as a willingness to be informed.
Point- a good debater has a lot going for them. They also are like a good public defender- skilled at defending a position, regardless of its merits.
